Advanced Noninvasive Geophysical Monitoring Techniques

چکیده
Geophysical methods can be used to create images of the Earth’s interior that constitute snapshots at the moment of data acquisition. In many applications, it is important to measure the temporal change in the subsurface, because the change is associated with deformation, fluid flow, temperature changes, or changes in material properties. We present an overview of how noninvasive geophysical methods can be used for this purpose. We focus on monitoring mechanical properties, fluid transport, and biogeochemical processes, and present case studies that illustrate the use of geophysical methods for detecting time-lapse changes in associated properties. 653 A nn u. Advanced SAR Interferometric Techniques for Monitoring Nonlinear Volcanic Deformation – Test Site El Hierro Island
SAR Interferometric (InSAR) techniques are widely applied for analyzing geophysical and tectonic deformations and for improving modeling techniques, with the benefits of surface deformation measurements covering areas from several to a hundred kilometers in size with a satisfactory accuracy (theoretically in the millimeter range). Nevertheless the accuracy and availability of deformation measur...
متن کاملMonitoring brain repair in stroke using advanced magnetic resonance imaging.
Thrombolysis and endovascular interventions have revolutionized stroke treatment, but many patients are excluded from such therapies, and residual disability is common.1 Emerging approaches to enhance poststroke brain repair may have no time constraints and are applicable to most stroke patients. Novel interventions to enhance brain repair include electromagnetic or robotic techniques, brain– c...
متن کاملAdvanced MR Imaging of Gliomas: An Update
Recent advances in the treatment of cerebral gliomas have increased the demands on noninvasive neuroimaging for the diagnosis, therapeutic planning, tumor monitoring, and patient outcome prediction. In the meantime, improved magnetic resonance (MR) imaging techniques have shown much potentials in evaluating the key pathological features of the gliomas, including cellularity, invasiveness, mitot...
متن کاملKarst Topography: Noninvasive Geophysical Dectection Methods and Construction Techniques
The objective of this project was to investigate the current state of the practice with regards to karst detection methods and current karst construction practices and to recommend the best practices for use by the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT). A comprehensive review of literature available on the subject was conducted. Various karst detection technologies were summarized with r...
متن کاملGeophysical monitoring of hydrological and biogeochemical transformations associated with Cr(VI) bioremediation.
Understanding how hydrological and biogeochemical properties change over space and time in response to remedial treatments is hindered by our ability to monitor these processes with sufficient resolution and over field relevant scales. Here, we explored the use of geophysical approaches for monitoring the spatiotemporal distribution of hydrological and biogeochemical transformations associated ...
